Oats Idli
Ingredients:
- Whole grain rolled oats - 1 cup (If you are using rolled oats then grind the oats)
- Rava Sooji - 1/2 cup
- Curd - 1 cup
- Salt 1 tsp
- Mustard seeds - 1/4 tsp
- Carrot - 1 grated
- Turmeric a pinch
- Green chili 1 (small)
- Curry leaves - 3 to 4
- Coriander leaves - a few chopped
- Hing/kayampodi 1/4 tsp
- Baking soda or eno salt - 1/4 tsp (you can skip this as well if you want)
Prep Steps
- Heat a pan and roast oats in medium flame for 6 - 7 minutes, stirring continuously (I use whole grained rolled oats)
- Take another pan
- Heat oil and splatter mustard seeds
- Then add curry leaves, green chili and grated carrot (saute until the raw smell goes)
- Now add rava (sooji) and roast for 2 - 3 minutes
- Take a glass bowl and the beaten curd, along with the roasted rava and oats mix.
- Mix them all well. (If you are using rolled oats, then grind the oats first)
- Then add salt and 1 cup of water
- Soak for 15 to 20 minutes
- Then check the water consistency (I add 1/2 glass more water)
- If you want you can add baking soda or eno salt and mix well
- Heat the idli steamer
- Then pour the batter in the idli mould
- Steam for 15 minutes or until it is cooked well
- Enjoy!
Extra Notes:
- You can serve this dish with coconut chutney and/or sambar
