Oats Idli 

Ingredients:
  • Whole grain rolled oats - 1 cup (If you are using rolled oats then grind the oats)
  • Rava Sooji - 1/2 cup
  • Curd - 1 cup
  • Salt  1 tsp
  • Mustard seeds - 1/4 tsp
  • Carrot  - 1 grated
  • Turmeric  a pinch
  • Green chili  1 (small)
  • Curry leaves - 3 to 4
  • Coriander leaves - a few chopped
  • Hing/kayampodi  1/4 tsp
  • Baking soda or eno salt - 1/4 tsp (you can skip this as well if you want)
Prep Steps
  1. Heat a pan and roast oats in medium flame for 6 - 7 minutes, stirring continuously (I use whole grained rolled oats)
  2. Take another pan 
  3. Heat oil and splatter mustard seeds
  4. Then add curry leaves, green chili and grated carrot (saute until the raw smell goes)
  5. Now add rava (sooji) and roast for 2 - 3 minutes
  6. Take a glass bowl and the beaten curd, along with the roasted rava and oats mix. 
  7. Mix them all well. (If you are using rolled oats, then grind the oats first)
  8. Then add salt and 1 cup of water
  9. Soak for 15 to 20 minutes
  10. Then check the water consistency (I add 1/2 glass more water)
  11. If you want you can add baking soda or eno salt and mix well
  12. Heat the idli steamer
  13. Then pour the batter in the idli mould
  14. Steam for 15 minutes or until it is cooked well
  15. Enjoy!
Extra Notes:
  • You can serve this dish with coconut chutney and/or sambar
